A former president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, Cardinal George was elevated to the College of Cardinals by Pope John Paul II in 1998.

Antonio Gonzalez, a leading Spanish theologian, was born in Oviedo (Asturias) in 1961. He has worked in El Salvador and in Guatemala at the Jesuit University, as well as in various centers of higher education in Europe. He shares with liberation theology the perspective of Gods option for the poor and the centrality of praxis in the Christian message and life.
